Arriving in January

Posted 1 day ago

Moving into halls this January?

We know that lots of you will be arriving to our accommodation during this month so here's a little of what to expect:

Arrival process

  • You should have received an email from the Residences team which details when your contract begins and when you can arrive to your Residence Reception to pick up your keys. If you arrive between 8am - 6pm, you will collect your keys from Reception. Outside of these hours, you will have to call Security on +442920 874444 and they will be able to give you access to your room.
  • You can order a bedding pack prior to your arrival from Residences for £30. This will be available from Reception or waiting for you in your room when you arrive.
  • Residences will give you your key and residences card. You will also be sent details of when you can go get your student ID from the Centre for Student Life - this needs to be done within 3 weeks of your course start date. You can get more information about collecting your card on the Intranet.
  • If you have questions about settling in like where to shop for groceries or how to connect to the Wi-Fi - our RLAs will be present in your social spaces from 6-9pm Monday-Thursday and all day on Saturdays so please head over to chat to them!

Residence Life

  • Once you have arrived, within a week or two, some of our RLAs will come round to visit you in your flat and bring you a Res Life Lanyard.
  • The RLAs are current students who also live in accommodation so they will be able to answer any questions you have about university life!
  • They can also tell you about our programme of events to help you meet other students at the university. You can see what events we have coming up on our events page.

Academic Induction

  • Look out for induction activities that have been arranged by your school to help you settle into University life. You will receive information about these via email.
  • If you are a first-year undergraduate, you will be contacted by the Student Mentor Scheme prior to arriving who will arrange a mentor for you. They are students from your same school who have already experience their first year and so can provide lots of helpful advice and tips.

The main thing to remember is you are not alone and we are here to help! Come find us at your social space or contact Student Connect with any questions or concerns you have. We'll see you very soon!
